7. Hugo Plana – exceptional performance!
The Lawrence-Gough-Cup (U17), held in Solingen, Germany on October 25–26, 2025, brought together a strong international field of young épée fencers. CE Luxembourg was well represented across both the individual and team events, achieving excellent results and showing great team spirit throughout the weekend.
Individual Events – Saturday
In the boys’ épée, Hugo Plana delivered an exceptional performance, finishing 7th among over 100 competitors. His teammate Antoni Friestedt also impressed with an 18th place finish, followed by Alexandr Opava (36th), Kristóf Ötvös (46th), Robin Szekeres (80th), and Henry Goostrey (83rd).
In the girls’ épée, Helena Colling showed excellent form and promise, finishing 13th before unfortunately sustaining an injury that prevented her from continuing. Joséphine Martinez placed 77th.
The club extends its best wishes to Helena for a full and speedy recovery. ❤️🩹
Team Events – Sunday
Sunday’s team competitions confirmed the growing depth of CE Luxembourg’s young fencers.
In the boys’ team event,
Luxembourg 1 (Gabriel Alves, Hugo Plana, Antoni Friestedt) achieved an outstanding 5th place, narrowly missing the podium.
Luxembourg 2 (Kristóf Ötvös, Alexandr Opava, Aris Van de Voorde) finished a strong 7th,
and Luxembourg 3 (Henry Goostrey, Robin Szekeres, Konstantin Bandakov) took 11th place.
In the girls’ team competition, the combined Luxembourg/Krefeld team (Teresa Cuccureddu, Juliana Ewert, Joséphine Martinez) achieved a solid 9th place finish.
These results highlight the excellent progress of CE Luxembourg’s young athletes on the international stage, both individually and as a team. Congratulations to all our fencers and coaches for their dedication and teamwork! 💪🤺
